We all do it at home but could we do more  recycling at work?

Here,  Sustainability Officer Emma Clarke wants to hear from you re bins and much, much more and shares her views on what can be acheved in the week ahead.

"It’s National Recycle Week (September 23-29)  and at CHFT we recognise that it’s something many of you are passionate about, so we want to tell you what we’re doing to help staff, patients and visitors to recycle more.

"Recycle bins are available throughout the Trust for collection of paper, cans and plastic bottles, and cardboard can be flattened to be collected by our waste porters. We are recycling more and more across the Trust but we realise there aren’t enough bins and that they aren’t always in the right place. We recognise that you are looking to organisations like ours to help to be part of the solution to major environmental issues.

"Any items that are separated for recycling is collected by Veolia and goes to a recycling facility where it is separated by hand and machine into the different commodities. These waste streams are then sold to be made into new products.

Waste and recycling is one of Emma's responsibilities. Emma says: "  To help us to do even more, I will be working my  way around the Trust over the coming months to identify what items can be recycled and where we need more bins. In the meantime, if you have any good ideas or are wondering how to dispose of a particular item, do get in touch with me".

But this week, use National Recycle Week as a call to arms: Can you be more waste conscious? Think, ‘can it be recycled?’ and if it can, why not rinse, crush, squash, sort and separate. If you’re unsure, ask Emma. You’re no doubt great at recycling at home, but can you recycle more at work?
