Matron Karen Melling has married her partner Mark Farrar and here are some lovely photos featuring some of her closest CHFT colleagues - now and then - sharing their happy day. Their reception was at the Moorlands Inn pub, Ogden, Halifax. Karen's son Josh Melling walked her down the aisle and their first wedding dance song was "If I can dream" by Elvis!

They're now on their honeymoon in Spain but before she went Karen shared the story of their romance ....and how to peg boxer shorts on the washing line properly!

How did you meet?

Bit complicated. In a nutshell was on an early shift. One of my cousins was tci for an op on evening list  ( as was on an early I didn’t see her) and should then have gone home. However things didn’t go according to plan and she stayed in overnight. Next day I was visiting her when her mum came.  My auntie was the Trust mortuary technician at the time. She asked me if I was “ courting” to which I replied no and at this point she asked my cousin if she had any single friends. She replied she did ( Mark) and so she arranged for us to meet and that was it ! So if all the stars had not been aligned we would never have met !

What attracted you to your husband and was it love at first sight.

Not sure I believe in love at first sight, but we immediately clicked and we have literally been together since the first time that we met

Any comedy moments during your time together?

As my friends on facebook and friends in general will tell you Mark comes in for a lot of stick ! He once hung the washing out and it was rubbish- his boxer shorts were just hung untidily  with 1 peg and therefore have no chance of drying and as everybody knows, you need to have them hung with two pegs. Anyway I took a pic and put it on facebook and the next day his work mates had made some paper bunting of boxers and socks and hung it across his work locker hahahaha !! Anyway he now hangs the washing out in the correct manner so all is good!

One of my close friends a couple of weeks ago said we should have our own TV show as we are “comedy gold”. I think she may have a point!

What makes you a good double act?

I think because we know each other so well. Mark will know exactly what I am thinking before I even say anything and he would literally do anything for me.  We just sort of click- I am not sure how else to explain it but we just were meant to be together. It does annoy me when he buys a new car without telling me though !

Honeymoon plans and have you a favourite destination?

We are going to a lovely friend’s apartment it Torrevieja – we’ve not been to this area of Spain before so looking forward to it. We love Las Vegas and have been a few times. It's such great fun although I am actually scared of the gaming tables so go on the slot machines instead !

We have also been to Chicago a few times and again this is a great place to go- would highly recommend and actually prefer it to New York

And lastly everyone knows we go to Benidorm on at least a yearly basis – it is what it is and again its such a fun place to be. Its like a second home to us !

Fave date night?

Don’t think we have date nights as such.  But when we do we usually go out for a meal and then come home and put a Sky movie on ! Poor Mark doesn’t have much of a choice in this and usually sits patiently through the latest Disney movie or similar without moaning until the end then he will say it was a load of rubbish and that he’s off to bed ! ! He does put up with a lot !
