Retired, back to work and retired again.

Colleagues came out in force to say a very fond farewell to Carol Turner.

Carol started her nursing career in 1972 at St Luke's, Bradford before joining CHFT where she has worked in a variety of roles including Practice Development Nurse, CVAD team, Ward Manager on the children's ward before her most current role as Staff Nurse in children's outpatients.

Although she has many skills which she has developed and shared over the years, Carol has a particular aptitude to cannulate and take blood from children without them even realising, making it as pleasant an experience as possible. This is a great skill that Carol has taken the time to teach many others within the children's team.

Matron for Childrens Services, Julie Mellor, said: "Carol has received so many positive feedback comments from patients and parents over the years, that she has become an integral part of any team she has joined.

"She has shown her clear ability to shine through adversity and has always kept those around her smiling."

We asked Carol, what will you miss the most?

I'll miss my colleagues and all the children on the ward especialy the regulars.

Is this definitely it for you then?

Yes I believe so. I've done Nursing for 48 years now, so it's time to move on.

Carol will be sorely missed by her current team and we wish her all the best for the future.

She will however have plenty to keep her busy in her retirement including time spent with grandchildren and holidays with friends.
