End of life care training is now part of ESR Role Specific training for appropriate clinical staff. The aim is to ensure all clinical staff, no matter which ward or area they work in receives training about the Individual Care of the Dying Document (ICODD) and also about the practical help available to support our staff, patients and families.

Training Lead for End of Life Care, Andrea Vickerman (pictured left alongside colleague End of Life Care Facilitator, Gill Sykes), said: "There are two levels of training; level 2 for doctors and Allied Healthcare Professional (AHPs), and level 3 for Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

"The training consists of watching the ICODD DVD, which has been made by our own staff, and includes training on supporting and enabling staff to hold conversations with dying patients and relatives. There is also information about syringe drivers, comfort bags, glide away beds, car parking permits, companions and to ensure wherever our patients die they received the same outstanding care".

You will be automatically enrolled onto the training in ESR and the training must be completed every three years.
