Sister Clare McArthur worked her last, of many hundreds of shifts, on the Intensive Care Unit at the Calderdale Royal Hospital today. She started her nursing career in 1977 with her training at the Calderdale School of Nursing.

Clare's very good friend and colleague Eileen Horsefall said: 

"She started her nursing career in 1977 with her training at the Calderdale School of Nursing. On qualifying she started work in the newly established Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Halifax Infirmary, at the time an innovative development for district general hospitals."

"In the early 80’s she moved to London for a time after marrying Greg a police officer. On her return to Yorkshire in 1987 she resumed her work in the unit, eventually in the role of Sister, and in the meanwhile having three children."

Her commitment, compassion, knowledge and skills have enhanced the unit these past many years. Her colleagues joined her to wish her well as she starts her well earned retirement.

For the future there’s an eagerly awaited first grandchild, plans to visit far flung family, to indulge a passion for crafting and more time to spend with many friends, oh and the long held ambition to spend a whole Christmas at home.

Clare told her Ward Manager Sue Manning that she will miss her colleagues more than anything.
