Here's occupational therapist Gilly King receiving her Star Award - and inset is the moment our CEO sprung the surprise on her.

Gilly was so overwhelmed surrounded by 50 physio mates in their office at HRI she buried her head in her hands in shock and said: "I don't need a well done. It's my job!"

Applause broke out as Owen outlined how she had made all the arrangements for a patient at the end of his life to be discharged all the way to his daughter's home in Scotland (and not his home in Huddersfield ) so he could spend his final days with his family.

Her nominator, Nicola Allen, wrote: " Just 72 hours after the request Gilly had ensured everything was in place for him to go to his daughter's and not to his home in Huddersfield. Within a matter of hours Gilly had built up a good, trusting relationship with the patient and his family, contacted social services, district nurses and arranged delivery of the appropriate equipment and contacted a GP to determine they were able to take over this gentleman's care safely. Within 72 hours his wishes had been met and he was in Scotland surrounded by his loving family."

She added: "Gilly definitely went above and beyond her role to make it happen for this patient."

Our CEO Owen Williams said: "This is pretty amazing. If you want to hear about somebody going out of their way to give you compassionate care then this is it!"
