Thanks to Linthwaite Football Club for this new patient transport to get our younger patients to surgery.

The club has donated an electric car so youngsters in Children's day Surgery Unit can drive themselves to theatres. This distracts them and also helps to reduce their stress levels.

Tracy Wilkinson is a staff nurse got the ‘ball’ rolling when our motorbike broke.

Clinical Operations Manager, Victoria Smith, said: "It is just another reason why I love my staff so much as they are constantly thinking of our patients and what we can do to improve their experience. They always go that extra mile."

A club spokesman, said: "When Tracy, our Club Welfare Officer  who is also a Staff Nurse on the ward, raised the idea of buying the car for the hospital we were more than happy get involved. We have a number of players who’ve had operations within the unit (not necessarily football related) and most of us involved within the club are parents and understand the stress and worry that everyone must feel when their child needs an operation or is ill.

"So anything we could do to help and put a bit of a smile on the kids’ faces was a privilege and it’s just a small gesture from the club to say thank you for all the fantastic work all the doctors and nurses do looking after not just the kids but the community as a whole."
