Take a closer look at the detail on this fabulous cake - given to colleagues on HRI's Greenlea by a grateful patient who had recently finished a programme of treatment on the unit. 

If you look closely (an image of the cake is below) you can see the patient having treatment at the back and all the other people are the staff at the front through the oncology clinic to the ward where colleagues administer the cancer treatments. The attention to detail is phenomenal – apparently the patient used photographs to capture the detail and the colleagues on the cake are wearing exactly what they wear on the wards right down to the colour of uniform and glasses.

Colleagues couldn't wait to show if to Chief Nurse Informatoin Carol Gregson when she was passing by. Carol added "There was great excitement from colleagues who were incredibly grateful for the gesture.

"It is obvious what our colleagues have done for this patient and how thankful they are, but then it is no surprise to me – they really are amazing!"

Greenlea staff nurse, Audrey Lister told us "We are desperate to eat the cake but it is still on display as all our patients are getting pleasure from looking at it.  Plus it will seem strange biting our heads off!

"The cake came from a patient who has completed chemotheraphy.  She started her treatment in January 2018 and has been attending the unit every 3 weeks since then.  She was always so grateful for the care she received in the unit and developed a very special relationship with each and every one of us. 

"She wanted to do something special for us on completion of chemo and has been planning this surprise for some time.  She took individual photographs of us and asked her friend, who specialises in cake decoration to make this for us. 

"It is a really special and thoughtful gift and made us all smile and feel really appreciated".
