Sara Radcliffe - our senior paediatric audiologist - is off to the USA  on judging duties.

She's been selected to judge The Crossfit Games in Madison, Wisconsin in August, from thousands of applicants and is only one of  two people from the UK to have been chosen.

Sara, says: "I am involved within the Crossfit community and currently train at Extreme Conditioning / Crossfit Huddersfield. Over the last two years, I have become a Crossfit Judge and also earned my CF Level 1 trainer status. I have been involved in judging Crossfit competitions around the UK and most recently Internationally."

For anyone new to the term, Crossfit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity - which you can adapt these movements to every life. An example of this would be a back squat is the equivalent of sitting down on the toilet, a deadlift is the same as picking up shopping bags from the ground.

Sara's personal favourite Crossfit workout is Grace - this workout is 30 Clean and Press at 43kgs for time.

Sara, who has been with the Trust since April of last year, says: "Crossfit workouts can be very intense which usually means you feel terrible during the workout however afterwards you feel great which in turn is very rewarding

"Being a judge, you are looking for the athletes to complete the movement standards as prescribed. An example of this would be a dumbbell snatch, both heads of the dumbbell have to touch the ground at the bottom and then the dumbbell overhead with the arms fully locked out and hips and knees locked also. The dumbbell must also travel from the ground to overhead in one fluid movement.

The Crossfit Games are in the USA and, as the price of getting there is costly, Sara is looking for funding support so if colleagues wish to assist please contact her on sara.radcliffe@cht.nhs.uk
