Staff Nurse Zoe Scott has been presented with ED's very first Greatix award for her compassion toward a dying patient.

Greatix is ED's in-house awards and any member of staff at CHFT can nominate them.

Here are the words from Zoe's nomination which clinched the first award.

"One afternoon a patient presented to the ED very unwell. It was rapidly established that he was not going to survive. The gentleman was unconscious and actively dying.

"He had no family present. Despite a number of other pressures in Resus and the ED, Staff Nurse Zoe Scott sat next to the gentleman holding his hand as he died. She ensured that he was not alone in his final moments.

"This expression of humanity clearly demonstrates a level of compassion which should be applauded."

Director of Operations for Medicine, Asif Ameen said: "Greatix is a great initiative and will help us recognise and appreciate the good work going on throughout ED.

"I was absolutely delighted to present our first award to a very surprised Zoe who really had no idea it was coming!

"Her story is a truly fantastic example of why we all work in healthcare - caring and compassionate care at its very best. It puts things into perspective, reminding us that at the heart of everything we do is the patient and this kind of human touch is priceless."

Anyone can nominate colleagues in ED.

How to nominate

  • Colleagues from any area of CHFT can nominate ED colleagues where they've seen areas of good practice.
  • Just email Greatix.ED@cht.nhs.uk with the details.
  • The lead nurses then review and make sure they all receive a certificate for their professional portfolio.
  • The Greatix winner of the month will have their certificate presented by the senior management team.
