Our Colorectal Oncologist Jo Dent "took on" our Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist Mrs Helen Ilsley in the Leeds Triathlon.

Jo  ended up an hour after Helen ( their times were Jo 3 hr.30 mins and Helen 2 hr 35 mins)  but she had stopped to gossip along the route to her supporters and was just glad nothing had "dropped off" along the way. It involved swimming for one mile, cycling for 40k and running 10k.

Jo said: " It was a great day. Helen started 10 mins ahead and ended up an hour earlier over finish line. So she defo beat me fair and square!! She was 12th in her age group which is amazing! I was just glad to make it over the finish line.

What was the hardest bit?

For Helen it was the swimming, it might have helped if she had remembered to take her hat off when she ran out of transition! For me it was anyone I knew seeing me in a tri-suit, they aren’t very flattering!

Did you seen the Brownlee Bros?

We failed miserably to manage any celeb spotting! Sarah Hoye was competing too, does that count?

Fave aspect of a Triathlon and why?

We feel that we are superior because we do three  sports in one go. You can't call us one-trick ponies anymore. The best part for both of us was doing it together

Was it competitive?

Helen is very competitive. She will want to be in top 10 for her group next year. I am just glad to get round without anything falling off. I admit to stopping along the way to gossip to friends who had come out to support. Leeds triathlon is competitive as its on the world series……..but for some of the competitors, less so!

Well done to them both! And best of luck in their next challenge called Sleep When Dead -  which started out as a drunken bet. You swim in trainers and run in a wetsuit without transition!.
