CRH Radiographer Andy Cross and his friends have now raised more than £6,000 including almost £1,700 amassed by his Genevan friends who kindly donated to the charity.

This means that enough money has been raised to buy two Vapotherm machines for the Special Care Baby Unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital, rather than the one that they were aiming for.

The gruelling First Breath Cycle Challenge covered 620 miles between Geneva and Barcelona and was completed last Friday 3 July.

Andy said “The most amazing thing is that everyone has just chipped in – and I don’t just mean by giving money – many have given time or supported us on Facebook.

“Receiving news of donations whilst we were completing the challenge really spurred us on, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the all encouragement we’ve received. It seriously has been one of the best things I’ve ever done!”

There’s still time to donate, though the donations made will be in Euros as most of the fundraising was completed in Geneva. You can support by visiting https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/dzc22
