Team spirit has carried the Acute Unit at CRH to a fantastic double at the finals of the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2019.

The team, now in its second year since it was created, is through to the finals in two categories in this year's prestigious awards. They are:

* Best Emerging Solution for Patient Safety.

* Patient Safety Innovation of the Year.

Judging is in May with the finals in Manchester in July.

Acute Medicine Consultant, Nick Scriven, said: " We entered to showcase our hard work and efforts and commitment to patient safety and to get the whole team the recognition it deserves."

He said the model was on the receiving end of tremendous feedback from patients - and staff too.

Nick added: "Through a lot of hard work the model has improved safety in several ways but we feel predominantly by improving the continuity of care in nursing and medical staff - ie a patient will more than likely see the same nursing and medical team for their short stay on the ward rather than different people every day.

"This increased knowledge of the patient helps staff recognise and work to limit risks for the individual patient."
