Our latest Hot House brought colleagues together to look at the high level results of the National Staff Survey 2018. We’d started working on improvements in key areas before now, which gave us a chance to see how far we’ve already come since the last survey.

The four areas we’re already started to address are:

  • Staff engagement – we've created Hothouses, Tea Trolley Rounds and have a new colleague engagement team to support (more on the team in a future edition)
  • Quality of Appraisals – we’ve loads of fab tools on the intranet to help appraisers and appraisees
  • Health and Wellbeing – we're looking to start a new CHFT staff choir in May (if you're interested please contact chaplain Sue Naughton (mail susan.naughton@cht.nhs.uk or call 07786 660785), we'll be supporting Mental Health week in May, our next Wellbeing Champion Forum will be in June and we're offering basic smoking cessation advice for staff through OH
  • Supporting Black Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) – all posts of band 6 and above now have a BAME rep on interview panels (where possible) who have put a fresh and interesting perspective on the questions we ask at our interview panels

Associate Director of Organisational Development, Ruth Mason said “It’s not a case of us waiting for the results of the survey to drop on our mat and then putting things in place as a result. Over the past year we’ve been having ongoing discussions and conversations with people so that continous improvement is part of what we do."

Four tables of colleagues looked at the clinical results of the staff survey, with a further table looking at Trust-wide issues.

Ruth added "These examples build on the improvement work that has already taken place and today's Hot House helped catch and create suggestions to build on this and help shape what we do with the latest results"

The next Hot House is planned for June and is open to all colleagues.
