A fab fish tank - home to Mushy Peas, Goldie, Vincent, Albert, Charlie, Ben and Freddie - is among the achievements of the fab fundraisers on the Children's ward at CRH.

The fundraising committee is raising funds to enhance patient care on the ward and to try and make the time families spend on their ward more comfortable. The fish tank is among the items which also include :

* new chairs for our assessment area waiting room

* electric cars for children to drive up to theatre when going for surgery

* a refurbished ‘quiet room’ and are currently looking at adding some sensory items to this area.

Their next fundraising event will be to raise money to provide parents beds/chairs for every bed on the ward resulting from feedback from our families.

They have posted on our Facebook page to ask families who have stayed on the ward to give us feedback on what they think would make their stay more comfortable. They are also looking at providing an area for bereavement where families can spend time comfortably with their children when they have passed away and allows friends and family to visit them.

The team has held cake and book stalls, attended mum -to-mums baby table top sales, designed and sold Christmas cards, held a ladies shopping night and have a charity day booked at the end of September hosted at Ravensprings park model railway.

They also have a recycling charity box on the ward where we collect old stamps, coins, jewellery, old phones etc. The team are constantly looking at new ideas to raise funds.

Their next event is on Saturday April 6 at Halifax Golf Club, Ogden, at 7.30 pm.

Sister Helen Finelli's brother-in-law Dean Finelli and nephew Luca from the band Insomnia are entertaining. They have offered to help by giving up their time to sing at this event. Dean's partner is also a nurse in the trust in ICU.

Helen said: "I have worked for the Trust since qualifying in 2005 and I love working here because I feel that within paediatrics we have a fabulous team. Everyone is passionate about their job and we work hard to put the patient first and to make their stay on the ward a positive experience   We are moving forward and embracing the use of social media to reach our patients and families and to capture feedback from them on how we can provide all our patients a more pleasurable experience."

This is a ticket only event and tickets are available from Helen or Fiona Stuttard on ward 3 CRH. Tickets are £10 and include a pie & pea supper.
