The NMC opened its register for the first qualified Nursing Associates  - and to mark the occasion  our staff were  invited along to the celebration event at the Houses of Parliament.

Vicki  Sillitoe, our Senior Clinical Educator, said: "It was a great event and it was wonderful to hear from others who can already see the positive impact the role is having on teams, individuals and most importantly patients.  I wish all of the TNA’s luck as they move through this final stage of their training and we look forward to seeing them qualify in April."

CHFT has embraced the Nursing Associates role as part of our workforce and here's more about them.

What are Nursing Associates?

Nursing associates are trained to work in health and social care settings.  The role is new and it bridges the gap between HCAs and registered nurses to deliver hands-on care for our patients as part of the nursing team.

How many nursing associates do we have joining the register in 2019?

CHFT formed part of a pilot training group of which we have 5 trainee nursing associates that are due to qualify in April 2019.  A job advert is available online and we may see others applying to which is great as we look forward to role expanding and growing over the coming months and years.

What was the celebration event for?

It was a special event and we were privileged to attend.  It was very much a celebration event but it was inspirational to hear from the speakers Lord Willis and newly qualified nursing associates.  They spoke passionately about the journeys and positive difference they are now making to those they care for.

Where will our nursing associates be based?

Initially our nursing associates will be based on MAU, SAU and ward 17.  You may have trainee nursing associate students on placement in your areas and if you need any support with how to support them please contact the clinical education team on 01484 342942

How do I become a nursing associate?

CHFT work with the University of Huddersfield, the training is over 2 years and is offered as an apprenticeship.  Adverts are often available on the intranet/NHS jobs so please keep your eye out as you could be the next trainee nursing associate.

Final word from one of our trainee nursing associates – Grace Bruines on SAU

“I was happy to have the opportunity to go to the Houses of Parliament. I really enjoyed the event and it was good to hear how beneficial the role is within the nursing workforce.  Listening to people's stories and talking to some newly qualified nursing associates has made me look forward to qualifying in April event more.”
