After months of planning and hard work, our Surgical Procedures Unit at HRI has combined forces with the Day Surgery Unit.

The theatre caseload for all day surgical procedures including Opthalmology and Plastics is now all carried out in the day surgery unit.

Victoria Smith, Department manager said “Both the Surgical Procedure team and Day Surgery team have worked wonderfully together.

“The Day Surgery Unit welcomed the Surgical Procedure Unit and hopefully we’ve made them feel at home.  We’re all part of one overall team, and we’re not only delivering fantastic care to patients but this now gives us the opportunity to rotate skills across many specialities.

Director of Operations for Surgery and Anaesthesia, Mel Addy, said “The amount of planning and efforts by both units to make this a success has been phenomenal, and I know that some colleagues have even chosen to come in on their own time to help make the transfer a success.

Matron for Head and Neck Services, Qusva Ilyas, said “I want to also give a huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.”
