Medical Education and their associated teams are celebrating successful recent funding bids from the Education, Research and Innovation Committee (ERIC)*, overseen by Health Education England. The equipment and training the team offer has a direct impact on patient care, so they're always excited when their bids are successful.

In the last year alone the teams have successfully bid for equipment including:

  • Two new Simulated manikins valued at more than £40,000. The bid was won in recognition of the number of new roles with a clinical learning component using Simulation Based Education as a key strategy for learning. This brings their total of successful bids in the last year to more than £150,000 in respect of aids to simulation based learning across all professional roles across both sites.
  • Our library facilities received £6,700 to develop tools for online resources for Speech and Language colleagues, and our phyisos to use with their patients. This builds upon a previous bid for £1500 to support website development.
  • Manual Handling received £1,800 for the purchase of a Bariatric training suit which helps colleagues appreciate the difficulties in moving and handling of bariatric patients. It also helps colleagues understand how it feels to bariatricand the difficulties they facein moving around a bed.

Trust Lead Skills and Simulation, Angela Hope, said "We're always so excited when we win a bid for funding, especially a big one, and want to tell as many people as we can!

"We never know if we'll get the funding and when we do it's actually a big deal as it helps us get equipment or put training in place we may not normally be able to buy"

"Whatever we do around education here at CHFT it directly impacts care, and though we're not on the wards delivering frontline care, we have to be just as aware as a clinical nurse in our jobs too".

* ERIC is responsible both for helping to direct the high-level approach of the Education & Innovation Teams for healthcare professionals, along with reviewing the developments, packages and courses too.
