Hello my name is…

Robert Ross. I am married with four children, having spent my last nearly 26 years within the Armed Forces, I have lived and worked around the world having spent more than half of my career out of the country, in Africa, Middle East, Europe and North America.  None of my children have been born in the same county or region, some not even in the country; it has come time for me to settle my family and for them to have some stability at home.

Summarise your career background
During my time in the Armed Forces there is not much that I haven’t done or attempted.  I began my career working on guided weapons systems and Air defence systems, then moved on the Electronic Warfare and Electronic Support Measures, after this I progressed to Armoured vehicle sighting and control systems.  Then moving into the maintenance of Medical, Dental and Veterinary equipment utilised within the services, servicing and maintaining everything from X-Rays to Infusion devices.  Having deployed in support of numerous operations, in many different roles the most satisfying was aboard the RFA Argus in support of the Primary Casualty Receiving Facility.

What is the highlight of your career so far?

Assisting the humanitarian relief efforts in Sierra Leone during the Ebola crisis.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Soldier, but was advised to get a trade, which has served me well thus far..

When you are not at work how do you relax?

Spending time with my family, walking and swimming or tinkering.

What is your favourite place?

In the Alps on the slopes skiing.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I am a Downhill ski racer and have broken the UK speed limit on skis.
