Over the Xmas/NY break there was some very sad news at HRI with the sudden death of security guard Mo Amin.

Mo, was today described as a "gentle giant" and a friend to all. Transport's Richard Hinchliffe, his close colleague of around 15 years, said Mo was "such a friendly guy and was someone you could lean on."

A memorial service  for Mo will be held on Thursday 10 Jan at 12.00 in the chapel at HRI.

Richard recalls how he and Mo once tackled three burglars trying to get into Trust HQ at HRI. He recalls: "We were on Ward 5 and got diverted to Trust HQ. We were outnumbered but we just grabbed two of them and hung on. Diane Whittingham the CEO sent us a letter thanking us."

He said Mo's homemade curries were also legendary. "Once you've had them, takeaways  just aren't the same."

He said there were plans to maybe stage a night out for colleagues and remember Mo - with plenty of food. Colleagues have also had a collection for Mo's family. He was married had three young children.

Richard added that when he was on shifts he spent more Christmas Eves and New Year's Eves alongside Mo.

"He was so friendly, friends with everyone. A real gentle giant."

Mo's funeral was last Friday and our sincere condolences go to his family.

General manager Lorina Cragg added these words from the whole of the Facilities Team:

"It is with deep sadness to learn that Mohammed Amin died last month.

"Mo had worked as a security officer for the past 18 years and was well known throughout the Trust. He would often be seen out on patrol in his security vest, even though somewhat reluctant to do so

"He was a highly valued, well respected member of the Estates and Facilities Division, who had a heart of gold and would help anyone.

"Mo was always cooking and could often be seen fetching his speciality curries and onion bhajis in for colleagues to taste

"He will be missed greatly by past and present colleagues."
