First of the New Year and there's a real tear-jerker of a top story.

Going the extra mile has become part of the job for our wonderful paediatric nurses who care for little Riley Merrill.

We featured them a few weeks ago when they helped him to an upgraded seat at Jess's concert in Leeds.

But they've only gone one better and got him face to face - and a duet - with his pop idol. Click here to see it.

Jess, is soon star alongside the Spice Girls in their comeback tour this year. She face-timed into the Children's ward, after hearing how Riley had just missed her invitation to meet her backstage at the concert in Leeds.

Riley - under the impression he was there for a blood test - got the shock of his life when our Lola Duncan brought her iPad in and asked him who was on the screen. After looking disbelievingly for a few moments, he soon got into his stride, chatting to Jess for a good 10 minutes. When Jess asked him why he was at the hospital he was surprised to hear there was no blood trest and it was all a ruse to get him to talk to Jess!

Riley is a regular attendee. Lola contacted Jess's management team who came up trumps. It's fair to say the link-up brought a tear to everyone's eye.

They belted out All I Am and some tickets are on his way to Riley too for the Manchester concert.

Thank-you Jess.
