Our Chair Philip Lewer marks the start of 2019 by being the last in our NHS70 - campaign.

It launched in January 2018  with our then Chair Andrew Haigh and 52 colleagues later we've ended it with Philip - who joined us in May.

Comms would like to thank everyone who  has taken part. It's had great feedback and covered so many different colleagues in so many different roles here at CHFT.

  • How long have you worked in the NHS and why did you want to?

I joined the Health Service when I was 18 years old. I joined as a Junior Trainee Mental Welfare Officer.

I had volunteered to work at a centre for people with Learning Difficulties and I really enjoyed myself as I was made to feel welcome and at home.

  • Why is it special to you( personal or family experiences, maybe)

The NHS is so special and unique, I am lucky it has been there for me and my family all my life. I know what my grandparents went through when there wasn’t the NHS Service.

The NHS was introduced at a time when the government had large debts just after the war. The NHS was a priority for the People of Great Britain. It offered a great piece of mind to all.

  • What birthday wish/present would you send it?

My birthday wish would be to say thank you to everybody who works for the NHS, especially here at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

My wish also would be that the NHS is still here in another seventy years for all to benefit. Thank you
