Becky Swain is on an incredible fundraising mission - backed by her HPS colleagues - to help build classrooms in Ethiopia in memory of her Mum.

Becky - a Development Analyst - with us since April last year, and 11 members of her family set a target of £18k to fund their mission and have now topped £27k.

Becky’s Mum, Janet sadly passed away last December. She was devoted to her career as a teaching assistant.

Becky said: “ Mum was a teaching assistant and loved her job. She was upset when she couldn’t work anymore, so we thought this would be a very fitting tribute. Children there have very few opportunities, and education is key to their future, and that of their families. The classrooms will provide the learning opportunity for many children over many years to come – all in my Mum’s name.

“The visit will also give us the opportunity to meet some of the families who will benefit making it extra special.”

She hailed her HPS colleagues who have supported all the family’s fundraising efforts in spectacular fashion.

“They just keep on giving and giving. Even when they’ve already given loads.” Various fundraising activities have taken place at HPS for this project, from Charity Bake Sales to World Cup Sweepstakes to Half Marathon Sponsorships.

She added: “HPS have raised £1262!! We have also had donations from some of our clients, amounting to £750 achieving a grand total of £2012, more than I could ever have hoped for.”

Out in Ethiopia the family will be up against high daytime temperatures and very low night time temperatures. They will be camping and there are no toilets or showers in the village.

They will be supporting the build through decorating and plastering.

The family’s mission was organised through AidCamps International. If you would like to donate then visit  the family’s fundraising page https://www.aidcamps.org/inlovingmemoryofjanet.aspx. ”

Becky’s colleague Product Development Lead, Stacey Powell, called CHFT Weekly with an update of Becky’s lovely mission from the heart. She said: “HPS are so proud of the work Becky is doing, and urge everyone to follow the link above, to donate to such a good cause!”
