HRI plaster room technician Mark Keating is asking colleagues to "think bike" as they're driving around our grounds, following a near miss, which could have been much more serious.

Mark used the Ask Owen button on the intranet homepage to see if there was anything we could do to raise awareness. He asked: "Can we please have an awareness initiative around finishing times especially now it is dark earlier. I say this after a near-miss on Tuesday 4th Dec at about 5pm.

"I ride my bicycle to and from work in the summer and my motorbike the rest of the year. When I left last Tuesday I rode down from A&E and was level with the nursery when a car reversed out. I braked, skidded, and then regained control and swerved around the car.

"I was shaken but just carried on, though with hindsight I should have stopped. The driver obviously didn't see me even though I had my headlights on and I was in middle of the road to anticipate anything happening.

"If we could just ask people to think about bikes in general - motorcycles and pedal cycles - it would be appreciated".
