Outpatients' manager  for Medicine and Surgery Ruth Finlay collected her long service award last night for 25 years (27 actually)  - carrying on an amazing family NHS tradition.

Her parents, Janet and John who met when the were nurse training in Sheffield were there and they inspired Ruth and her siblings Tim and Rebecca to follow in their career footsteps.

Between them the family have more than 100 NHS years' nursing. 

Ruth said: "  My parents spent their entire careers in the NHS and are now retired and that's why I invited them. They were always inspiring and committed to the NHS and all it stood for."

Ruth, trained at Huddersfield School of Nursing and also worked on the paediatric unit at HRI and as a health visitor  and family nurse for Calderdale PCT and came back to us two years ago.

HR's Diane Marshall said: " It was truly lovely to see the family there. It made a special night extra special especially with all the nurse connections."
