Today is International Stop Pressure Ulcer Day! The aim of the day is to increase awareness about the damaging impact of pressure ulcers.

Using the symbol of the red dot, the Tissue Viability Team want to bring visibility to the importance of preventing pressure ulcers.

NHS Improvement now heads up the campaign or awareness around pressure ulcers as they are a key indicator of the quality and experience of patient care.  NHSI says that despite progress since 2012 in the management of pressure ulcers they remain a significant healthcare problem, with over 1,300 new ulcers reported each month and treating pressure ulcers costs the NHS more than £1.4 million every day.

We know that many pressure ulcers are preventable, so when they do occur they can have a profound impact on the overall wellbeing of patients and can be both painful and debilitating . Preventing them improves care for all vulnerable patients.
