Purple is the colour theme for World Prematurity Day next Saturday. (Nov 17) and to celebrate  we are staging a torchlight walk around the perimeter of CRH.

Our supporters have been knitting purple woolly hats for day. See photo.

It starts at  our maternity entrance and finishes at the front. We gather at 6 pm  with the Mayor of Halifax waving us off.

Organiser Debbie Martin-Lawson, said: " Not only is it Prematurity Day,  it's our 70th year. We want people to come and light the night up with torches, wands anything which flashes. All as a symbol for our precious babies  and marking this special year."

World Prematurity Day promotes awareness for pre-term births, the babies and their families. An estimated 15 million babies are born preterm, leading to risk factors such as infection, placental problems or genetic problems.

The first international Prematurity Day was created in 2008, and has been growing ever since.
