Ward 8 has staged its first pop-cafe for our patients with dementia and their families.

The aim of the cafe was to create a place where patients with dementia and memory problems can relax and interact with fellow patients, staff and their family and friends.

We wanted to bring together all the valuable dementia resources such as signposting leaflets, engagement support work and enhanced care to support relatives and carers in understanding what we do and the help available both in hospital and in the community.

The  first cafe went well, we had a lot of interest and positive feedback from patients and their families, ward and therapy staff also joined us, it was buzzing and felt really successful. In future it will happen on the last Thursday of every month on Ward 8.

Chief nurse, Jackie Murphy, opened the cafe which was great, Renee Comerford our nurse consultant for older people and frailty nurse lead joined us.

So, particular thanks to Meike And Donna (Ward 8 engagement support workers), and Sarah Duke enhanced care coordinator and Val Bamforth nutritional assistant for ward 8.

Also the ward 8 staff who helped in creating the floating teapots and  serviettes (made by the patients). Also finally to thank Andrea ward 8 housekeeper who made the wonderful cake with the words Dementia Cafe iced on it.

Can’t wait for our next cafe.
