Our Chief Clinical Information Officer, Graham Walsh is asking colleagues who use EPR to make sure they save their entries in the correct way, so that everyone can see the record.

We have a significant number of incorrectly saved entries in EPR. Essentially any entry we make into EPR needs to be ‘signed’ by the person entering the document before it will appear in the patient record.

Graham, says: "If we simply save the document, we can see it under our own login but it won’t be visible to anyone else viewing the patient record. This counts for any document whether it’s an operation note or a ward entry.

"So I'd ask colleagues to use the ‘Sign’ button as opposed to the ‘save’ button when we are completing our documentation. Although this has been highlighted with recent emails and a pop-up we are still seeing many errors and these could impact on patient safety.

" It would also help us if colleagues could sign-off any historical saved documents on their home screen. Simply open them up and click the ‘Sign’ button. Only the last 90 days will be shown as a default, but this can be changed to a longer period in the display box on the home page."
