Our HCA Jenny McGuire is the first CHFT colleague to scoop an extra day off after having her winter flu jab for 2018.

Jenny, from ward 8 at HRI, went into the draw along with all the other colleagues who have had their jab so far (draws take place each Weds) to win a day's annual leave. We've already had confirmed cases of 'flu at CRH, so having your vaccination now gives us all a better chance of staying healthy this winter - it's the only protection against the 'flu. Someone will be be selected every week of the campaign. A second prize of £25 high street vouchers was won by James Wickham from ward 5d at Calderdale.

Our lead infection control matron Jean Robinson, (pictured below with Jacob Miah from Endoscopy) said: "As soon as you have the vaccination your body starts to develop a natural immune response so the earlier you have it the better. In some people it can sometimes present with mild 'cold like' symptoms but they only last a day or two... unlike the 'flu which is severe and probably leaves you bedridden!

"It's a common myth that having the jab gives you 'flu. That's just not true - it's classed as inactive, as there is no live vaccine in it".

When Jenny was told she's won this week's prize, her response was "I certainly wasn't expecting that, but I have the vaccination every year to protect me and my patients."

Why not go to a drop-in or talk to an immuniser and it could be you as a winner next week?
