More than £200 raised for Macmillan was the icing on the cake for baker Bronagh Davis.

Our validation clerk put on a fab spread - including an amazing raffle - to support the charity as it had been so supportive during her Grandad's illness.

She said:  "My Grandad was supported by Macmillan during his illness, until he sadly passed away. I was only young but my mum said he praised the  nurses who cared for him so much throughout his care. Cancer is a disease that has affected my family a lot and Macmillan have been a part of it, to support my whole family. I have always done fundraising as much as I can, as my Grandma used to get us involved in her events, so I hope I can do more here in the future, for many different charities."

On the day Saima Hussain was Star Baker with her Carrot Cake and won a gift voucher for Patisserie Valerie. Sarah Talbot was also a winner - with an exact guess of 89 sweets - and won the whole tub!

Bronagh loves her Bake Off and has been a fan of both BBC and Ch4 version. She adds: " I’ve always loved the BBC Bake off because of Mary, Sue and Mel and wasn’t sure of the change, but I have to say I’m really enjoying it on Channel 4 actually."

And a keen baker herself, she reckons sticking precisely to recipe is the key to success. " I do love to bake! You need to be precise when baking or it can all go wrong. I’ve learnt from my mistakes, but kept practicing and the mistakes still tasted yummy haha."

She added her thanks for all the support last Friday in the top  floor at Acre House.

" I just want to say a massive thank-you to everyone who was able to come  and to all of you who have donated and entered the raffle and sweet competition."

**Staff Nurse Carolyn Walker  (orthopaedic outpatients) organised a cake stall in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Charity in the main entrance at HRI.  She was helped by Clinical Support Worker Olivia Higgins (also from Orthopaedic Outpatients) and they raised over £470. Cakes were made and donated by orthopaedic outpatient staff past and present.
