This month has seen many changes within our Medical Division. Read on for a full-roundup.

  • Lucy Jesson (nee Pittaway) will take on the General Manager role for the Emergency Directorate from Caroline Smith, who will be moving into a General Manager role as part of the Central Operations Team. Lucy got married last month hence the lovely photo and has also supplied the latest in our Hello My Name Is... series. See below. When she was growing up she had many career ideas and NHS middle management wasn't one!

Other appointments are:

  •         Julian Chadha - General Manager for the Medical Specialties Directorate, taking on the role vacated by Lucy.
  •         Charlotte Veale - IMS General Manager (vacated by Maureen Overton recently) – Charlotte starts on the 22 October.
  •         Our ADN Andrew Mooraby is currently on sick leave – in his absence Janette Cockcroft has kindly agreed to provide additional senior nursing support and leadership and help keep us safe. Janette will focus on key elements of our Quality Agenda.
  •         Erica Dickins joins our divisional Finance team working with Helen Rees and Paul Cornish on Monday 10 September.

Hello my name is…  Lucy Jesson.

I was Lucy Pittaway before I got married on 4th August this year (I have recently confused a lot of people with my new email address).  I am a local Yorkshire girl, I was brought up in Holywell Green and went to North Halifax Grammar School. I now live in Birchencliffe with my husband Josh, dog, Caesar and cat, Kevin.

What is your position?

General Manager for Emergency Medicine

Summarise your career background

I started the NHS graduate management scheme in Manchester in 2013 after graduating from Warwick University. I then worked as an Operational Manager at the University Dental Hospital in Manchester before coming back to the right side of the Pennines to work as an Operational Manager in Medicine at CHFT. After eight months in post I became the General Manager for Medical Specialties and moved last week to be General Manager for Emergency Medicine.

What is the highlight of your career so far?

Lots of moments! One is running the Manchester marathon to raise money for a FibroScan at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Well, the highlight was more stumbling across the finish line than the running!

Sum up your role in three words

Diverse, challenging and rewarding

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

It changed every 5 minutes! Dentist, pharmacist, vet … surprisingly middle management in the NHS never quite made the cut!

Who is your hero/heroine and why?

A lot of people inspire me, but my dad is definitely at the top of the list. He is one of the most hardworking, helpful people I know – two things I strive towards

When you are not at work how do you relax?

In the gym, out walking the dog or curled up with a good book/TV series on Netflix

What is your favourite place?

My favourite place at the moment is my garden – it has taken us three years working on it but we finally have it finished!

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Probably not an awful lot as I don’t keep much quiet. However my favourite hobby is weightlifting!

The NHS is 70 this year. How does that make you feel?

Excited to be at the start of what will hopefully be a long career in such an amazing healthcare system
