Our interpreter Selina Hafiz is starting up walks in the hope of encouraging members of the Asian community to get out and about and keep fitter.

Selina, works at both HRI and CRH, supporting us to deliver care and hopes to have a walk every three or four weeks which are open to all colleagues.

The first is 3.5 miles  this Sunday from Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge, with the aim of providing fresh air, fun, self discovery and, of course, exercise.

She says: " In my work over the past five years I am seeing soaring numbers of diabetes patients. I am trialling these walks to see if interest can be developed and encouraging group walks so that people can share a goal together encouraging each other to adapt to a healthier lifestyle.

"Walking is one way of self-helping as lack of exercise can contribute to diabetes. Walking helps to prevent or control it. It is also a great opportunity for communities to mingle, bringing communities together."

For this first walk, it's just a question of turning up. Following the first walk Selina will create a Facebook group to promote future groups.

Meeting point:  Upper Midgehole car park. 11.30 - noon. The National Trust representative will be there he will be aware of our walk and will direct people to our meeting point once parked up.
