Liam Christy and his parents came in to thank the Special Care Baby Unit for heping him survive his early days after being born at just 24 weeks - 16 weeks early.

Debbie Lawson-Martin was present at his birth (when she was a young staff nurse) and has maintained a special relationship with the family ever since. She calls them her "extended Special Care Family." Everyone in the photo cared for Liam during his stay with us.

She says: " Why is Liam so special? He was born at 24 weeks gestation that's 16 weeks early and weighing less than a bag of sugar. He is celebrating with us our 70 years of NHS and came back for a visit bringing us lots of nappy sacks for our babies.

"Everyone on the photograph had the pleasure of looking after Liam and his family and I was actually present at his birth, all be it a very young staff nurse then. Over the years I've kept in contact with the Christy's they are my extended Special Care Family. I'm so honoured to have cared for Liam its wonderful to see him grow into a kind and handsome young man."
