A patient is running free drop-in sessions for CPR to commemorate one year on after he survived a heart attack.

Neil Davidson is a cardiac arrest survivor who came through our ED at CRH and has raised a significant amount for the cardiology unit. He is a deputy lieutenant and a prolific fund raiser for charities

Our ED Consultant Andy Lockey will be attending as he is a friend and also for his role with Resuscitation Council (UK) capacity and also as the co-lead for ‘World Restart a Heart’.

He said: “Neil survived a cardiac arrest due to a chain of interventions ranging from the ambulance service to the A&E Department, ITU and cardiology services at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. But even more critical to his survival was the bystander CPR performed in his bedroom by his son, who had learnt the skill at school ten years previously. Neil has raised thousands of pounds for the cardiology unit at Calderdale and, a year after his cardiac arrest, is providing free CPR training to anyone who wants to drop by Old Brodleians on 11 August. He is an inspirational man who is dedicated to sharing the message that a simple skill like CPR can save lives.”

So if you have you ever wondered how you'd cope if someone collapsed in front of you this could be for you.

It's at the Old Brodleians Clubhouse in Hipperholme a week on Saturday (August 11) -  the first anniversary of when Neil had his heart attack.

This link tells Neil's story -  how his son who had CPR was first to tend to him. It also includes his gratitude to A&E, cardiology and ITU here at CRH. - https://www.resus.org.uk/features/community-stories/a-year-of-miracles/
