A group of enthusiastic colleagues from pathology took part in the National Biomedical Science Day aimed at promoting the great work that goes on in the department earlier this month.

Staff were very creative with their ideas which included using a mannequin dressed in personal protective equipment, pinning the organs on the body, guessing the number of blood tubes in a jar and even a knitted cross-section of a piece of skin, hair follicles and all! Modelling organs out of Playdough went down well with all.

A Bake-Off took place in the lab with the winners creating a sperm cake and brain buns!

We had many visitors, both staff and patients and even the external inspectors from the cervical QA team joined in. A stand was also manned in the main entrance of Calderdale Royal Hospital with lots of posters and leaflets with information about the various disciplines and tests.

Patients were grateful for staff taking the time to listen to their stories and all were very positive about the fantastic work the laboratories do.
