Our Assistant Director of Performance Peter Keogh only had three weeks to prepare for the 60+-mile ride for charity, and despite soaring temperatures nailed it.

He did the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride along with about 2,000 others, earlier this month and and has so far raised £650 for dementia research as it has affected his father for the past five years and also his two uncles.

Peter said: "I was only asked to fill in for a friend who dropped out three weeks before and somehow I agreed although I'm not a regular cyclist. I managed to borrow a road bike from another friend the Wednesday before the potential ride and he took me out for a 14 mile 'practice' - furthest I'd ever ridden.

"If that had not gone well I would not have attempted the big one. I didn't feel too bad the next day so I decided to go for it - from 14 miles to almost 70  and on the day after England's victory against Sweden too!). I set up my Justgiving page and decided to ride for dementia as my dad is in his 5th year on his dementia journey plus his 2 younger brothers had passed away with the illness in the last couple of years."

"I managed to complete the ride on one of the hottest days of the year (only 5 of the 7 of us who started made it and they'd done it before!) and felt a great sense of achievement with the final miles down Blackpool front quite emotional as, like most Mancunians, I had many family holidays there in the 70s."
