More than 20 years after a short placement in the HRI Chaplaincy from Huddersfield Uni, Sue Naughton is now licensed to minister at CHFT.
Sue, pictured with her grandson George, qualified as a nurse in 1980 but her love of the ministry has brought her full circle back to CHFT.
Sue, also a Church of England Lay Reader was recently licensed for ministry at our Trust by the Bishop of Huddersfield, Jonathan Gibbs - the formal element of the process.
Chaplain George Spencer, said: "I am delighted to welcome Sue to the team. She'll be be based primarily at Calderdale Royal, following the retirement of Tom MacKinlay. Sue, who trained and worked as a nurse until recently, comes with a broad range of experience and good, caring skills.
"Since starting in January, she has already played a valuable role in supporting patients and developing links with colleagues."
Sue's career includes nursing, health visiting and district nursing. She has also worked with the Stroke Association and set up a new service at Calderdale Council to support people with advanced dementia to remain at home.
Sue said "The chaplaincy is here for everybody. I'm looking forward to working with Occupational Health to build up our Wellbeing programme, as well as with the Women's and Children's team.
"I'm also keen to encourage as many colleagues to use the chaplaincy as possible, whether it be for some quiet time, prayer or to seek advice. We're always here.
"To me there is huge value of being able to support people with their spirituality/ spiritual needs as part of holistic health and well-being, be it patients, their families and our colleagues. I have already supported a number of families in end-of-life, pregnancy loss and still birth."
