Sarah Topen, the specialist Macmillan dietitian in our Head and Neck Cancer team has been shortlisted for a top Health Professional of the Year award. (pictured centre)

The Head And Neck Cancer Team covers patients from both Calderdale and Huddersfield who have been diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer, and may need treatment at Bradford or Leeds. Team leader  Michelle Beaumont nominated Sarah for the award hosted by Clinical Nutrition Magazine.

The nomination was based on the team’s achievement of reducing the length of time their patients require enteral feeding after treatment. The intense rehabilitation includes a weekly appointment over a six week period with the CNS, Dietitician and Speech and Language Therapist. This new way of working has proven to be a huge success and it has reduced the amount of time patients need feeding tubes by half.

Michelle, said: “it’s nice to have acknowledgement that the work we do is valued and worthy of being nominated. I am very proud of Sarah and what she has achieved. “

Sarah said: “I am very proud to have been shortlisted for this award, but it reflects the hard work and dedication of the team. I would also like to say a huge thank you to Macmillan for their ongoing support and fundiing".
