Colleagues from Medical Outpatients and the Prep team at CRH celebrated Kath Walker's 40 years as a nurse with a big bunch of lovely flowers for her.
She started as a pupil nurse in April 1978 at the Willow School of Nursing in Halifax next to the old Infirmary the took a conevrsion course to become a staff nurse. She has worked in medical elderly wards up 2000 and was then redeployed to CRH.
She has retirement looming possibly and says she has always loved her job - well, most of the time.
"What makes nursing special is meeting so many different and new people - whether they are staff or patients - and that's special."
“Kath has been with the outpatients team here at CRH for over 18 years with previous experience in Acute Medical nursing. She started as a pupil nurse in April 1978 when some of our team were still in Primary school, as they jokingly reminded her on the card she received along with some beautiful flowers.
Sister Maggie Shepley, said: "Kath is an extremely hard working and conscientious member of the team and knows all of the little idiosyncrasies that are required to help run a smooth and efficient patient focused outpatient department. She helped me to become part of the team when I started here nearly a year ago, and is still able to teach me things now!”
