We've been in yet another top NHS competition this week - through to the finals of the HSJ Value awards 2018.

Yorkshire Fertility now have a new virtual clinic system for patients, saving them time and expense of travelling for their appointments with us from across West Yorkshire.

Helen Sutcliffe from Yorkshire Fertility and Richard Hill from Health Informatics (pictured), teamed-up with Sarah Savage Edwards and Mike Crooks from technology supplier BLOCK in London before the judges explaining how it provides a better service for patients.

We were in the "use of information technology to drive value in clinical services" category and they will now be at the finals in Manchester in June to see if they have won.

The virtual appointments mean if patients do not need a medical procedure, then they have the option to have consultation without the stress and time of travelling and parking at one of our venues. They started up in September and now around 10% of appointments are virtual, with the aim of increasing this over time.

Helen said the judging process seemed to have had gone well. She said: " There were three of us representing the technology, health informatics and CHFT and we showed how we had worked together to create this for our patients. The fact we concentrated on patient care and patient experience should hopefully give us an advantage over the other entries in our category."
