Orthoptist Emma Lee is six months pregnant with her second child - and came up with this bloomin' good idea.

She kept her trousers from her first pregnancy but has had to re-order new unform tunic for the last few weeks of this pregnancy, and she reckons this is a waste of money.

She thinks the Trust could easily have a wardrobe amnesty of maternity gear which could be passed on and worn for a few weeks rather than buying new every time.

Emma, already a mum to one-year-old Penny, said: " You only need maternity tops for about six to eight weeks at the end so they don't wear out.  So maybe we shouldn't be ordering new ones every time."

This is her submission to #doingmybit:

"I'm in maternity uniform again after having a baby last year too. I handed my maternity tunics back in last year but somehow have kept the trousers. When requesting maternity tops this time I have been kindly ordered three brand new tunics presumably out of my dept's budget. I've reused the trousers but will be handing them back when I go off on mat leave.

"Why don't you hold a uniform amnesty, and instead of buying new staff/ pregnant staff brand new uniforms, have a stock of spares to issue. The maternity uniforms hardly get any wear before staff go off and its also much quicker to get uniforms than ordering them in ."

Transformation Programme Manager, Sharon Appleby, said: “ We are very grateful for Emma’s suggestion and are looking into it.  The #doingmybit has had a fab response from colleagues. All ideas can contribute to us saving money and having more for patient care. We thank everyone who has contributed and welcome any more."
