Undoubtedly, one of the most successful outcomes from our two Perfect Weeks was the introduction of the new Bed Teams. The weeks in December and January were aimed at finding out how we can improve our care pathways to make them smoother, quicker and eliminate delays for patients.

Originally  borne out of an idea they are now a permanent and essential part of our care delivery at CHFT. They are performing a brilliant job combining teamwork and dedication and have a real impact on our ability to deliver quality patient care.

In April, for example the two teams - based at HRI and CRH - cleaned more than 1,500 beds between them - ensuring nurses, who used to perform the role, have more time with patients and also that there are no delays in the system for our patients.

The team tells CHFT Weekly it takes 20 minutes to clean a bed so time wise we have worked out that’s an amazing 500 hours has been saved so more time can be dedicated to patient care.

That is an incredible achievement. A simple idea of a new way of working which is having huge impact.

Director of Planning, Performance, Estates and Facilities, Lesley Hill, said they deserved the whole Trust's thanks. She said: “The  impact of this team, which affects the ability of the whole Trust to deliver compassionate care for our patients has been amazing to see. It shows we previously had a missing link and there’s  a real buzz and a real team spirit behind their success.  Everyone says they are a joy to work with. The amazing  figures  for April represent a lot of hard work and dedication."
