The Community Division  has welcomed  and enjoyed having global colleagues  and Advanced Nurse Colleagues  Blessy and Wei Fong from Singapore to show them how care is provided here.

Community Care in Singapore is predominantly clinic-based and the nurses wanted to experience what kind of care could be delivered in the patient's home and how this is delivered safely.

Community Matron Elizabeth Morley, said: " As Singapore looks into developing community nursing, their trip was instructive as it  showed how their country can build up its competencies and core capabilities of their community nurses. This will help them in determining the type of training and education as well as how they can design their own community nursing teams.

"Blessy and Wei Fong were shown the importance of community nurses and the crucial role they play in primary health care team.  They are qualified nurses who provide care and support for patients out of hospital, mostly in patients' own homes, in clinics and GP surgeries."

They worked with the District Nurses, Community Matrons, Quest Matrons, Continence Team, Respiratory team and the Lymphodema team over a two-week period - so thanks to them all for supporting their visit.

Blessy and Wei Fong, said: " We have learned how Community Services in Calderdale keep patients with complex needs well managed in their own homes we would like to use our learning experience and adapt them to suit our local population. We would like to thank the Community Division for giving us this great opportunity to learn from your dedicated teams who do such an amazing job! ”

** As well as learning about  excellent community nursing, they also discovered snow during their visit!  The temperature in Singapore rarely falls below 21 degrees, and  Blessy and Wei Fong had never seen snow before and had never felt cold like it!
