Money-saving ideas continue to arrive into the doyourbit@cht.nhs.uk inbox.

This week's Ang Hayward's suggestion about paper reports from X-ray is the latest to catch the eye.

Ang, formerly from old ward 10, is now PA to the consultants in the Emergency Department at CRH. She said: "A&E at CRH receive copies of X-ray report summaries on a daily basis but these are reviewed via EPR so are not necessary.  Printing, stationery, staff time costs - potentially a small (tiny) saving could be achieved if this practice was discontinued?"

In response, radiology has confirmed that paper reports will be switched off altogether in the near future.

Manager Sarah Clenton, said: " Radiology is currently forced to print out paper reports until message centre is working and there is assurance that all requesters are receiving radiology results.

"Selective printing isn’t possible unfortunately therefore it would increase the workload considerably to sort all the paper reports manually and remove unwanted reports for specific areas.

"Paper reports are going to be switched off altogether in the next few months though when we are sure message centre is working reliably and we have audit results to back this up."

So, nice one Ang.
