Our Respiratory Consultant  Dr Charlotte Spencer, is jetting for a two- week trip to the Kajiado District of Kenya with the Christian organisation EMMA (Evangelistic Medical Mission Abroad). This gives medics the opportunity to provide healthcare to those in real need.

Missions last between two to three weeks. Participants spend two days working in a village before moving onto the next location then spend about nine days on medical work,

Food, water, accommodation and transport are the responsibility of the local church pastors or evangelist to whom we are linked and they also have the responsibility for setting up the evangelistic events or gospel outreaches of each trip.

Charlotte will be working with eight other volunteers to bring basic health care to the Maasai tribes in three remote, rural, areas where there are almost no medical facilities.

She said: "The people still live in the traditional way herding cattle. We will stay in tents and provide everything for free including spectacles, funding and taking all resources with us. It is a privilege for me to be able to go on this adventure.

"I will definitely be out of my comfort zone (and comfort! No electricity or running water!) It will be very different from my usual daily work but probably humbling."

We wish Charlotte the best of luck, if you want to find more information out about EMMA or to donate please visit www.uk-emma.org
