We print and distribute more than 12,500 paper slips each month - the equivalent to a tree an a half!

So, from next month we'll be switching to electronic payslips - which colleagues can still download and save, or print if they need to.

In an age when we’ve moved to EPR (electronic patient records) and many of us use online banking and digital technology in our personal lives, it has been agreed our January 2018 payslip will be the last one we automatically print and distribute Trust-wide on paper.

More than 5000 colleagues accessed the ESR portal in December - the highest figure yet. We use it to book and complete training, add absence, see our payslip information or amend our personal details.

Colleagues can view and print or even download their payslips in ESR at any time, which means they still have access to the same information they’ve always had - plus it's much safer as there is security and paper payslips aren't left lying around.

Colleages can access their ESR account from any Trust computer - including those in the Library and Learning Centres. ESR can also be accessed from home.

For now, colleagues on maternity leave or long-term sick will continue to receive a paper payslip.

Accessing ESR and guidance

Colleagues can view all their payslips and pay history in the “My payslip” section in the ESR Portal

They can also be printed off or saved from the portal – guidance here

If you need help to set up access from home or any other information about ESR see our page here

Withdrawing paper payslips means:

  • The payroll department will be freed up to support queries, rather than sorting and checking the payslips before distribution
  • We’ll make a small saving on posting payslips to home addresses
  • Our post room teams will also gain extra time
  • Piles of paper payslips will no longer be left languishing in post trays, and it also supports our governance around security
