Over Christmas CHFT have been big savers....in 'leccy units.

Across the two main hospital sites we saved 97,000 units of electricity compared to the same months last year at CRH and 71,000 units of electricity at HRI.

In money terms this meant we saved £20,000 worth of electricity by using machinery more economically and the switching off lights and equipment when not needed. Community have also  been doing their bit in support of the Switch Off Squad.

Back in the Autumn, estates teams started walkabouts in their distinctive yellow campaign T-shirts promoting a new electricity-saving drive  in an effort to try to  bring our bills down.

Don "Dump It" Mackenzie,  now the proud owner of a personalised hi-vis jacket, see photo, said: " During the walkabouts meeting colleagues we were able to point  some switches which could easily be left on and probably were being. When everyone is so very busy it can be the last thing to think about. But the walks raised awareness and, as the figures show, colleagues took it on board and the Trust has made the savings.

“ Staff are always being asked to  support campaigns at work… so it is good to be able report back to them that what they did  really worked. I’d like to thank everyone who flicked a switch.”

He said the campaign would continue  for the rest of this winter and right through until next summer to make more savings.
