Our prevention of delirium co-ordinator Kirsty Jowett and her engagement support workers - Beth Ashworth, Sarah Duke, Kate Haley, Amy Walton and Farrah Hussain recently organised an event to support the Alzheimer’s Society 'National Elf day' when they also had a RemPod* on display in the main entrance at HRI.
And they’re putting the word out that if your ward would benefit...there are three in storage which can be put to good use.
Kirsty said “We managed to talk to some colleagues to provide information and education around these reminiscence spaces (RemPods) and why they are so important and effective in aiding recovery.
“We also proved quite a talking point with visitors too, which was positive to make them aware of the investment the Trust is making in improving dementia and elderly care across our sites”.
There are still three RemPods which can be set up in ward or department areas: a vintage hair salon, vintage tea room and seaside scene.
If you think these would be useful for patients in your area please contact Caroline Sellers on 07917 070 137.
* RemPods are pop-up areas with the aim of providing a calm environment harking back to yesteryear for people living with dementia.
* National Elf Day was earlier this month promoted by the Alzheimer's Society.
