Emotions ran high on ward 1 at HRI as a couple in their seventies tied the knot.

Brian Lockwood and Sandra Anderson, from Shepley, exchanged their vows watched by family, friends, ward and catering staff.  Brian, who is a cancer patient, proposed last week to Sandra after being together for fifteen years.

The wedding was due to take place on Thursday at home but was brought forward to Wednesday in hospital and the registrar attended at short notice.

Sandra said: “It has been such an emotional day, and I never expected for one minute that the staff would be able to arrange all the food and the wedding cake in an hour! It’s lovely”.

Catering staff provide the wedding cake and a finger buffet for everyone at short notice.

Sandra’s daughter Michele Peace, said: “It has been a great day for them both and the hospital staff were absolutely brilliant.  We thank everyone involved to make it a special day.”

Head of catering Andrew Donegan, said: “We were just grateful for getting the opportunity to be able to play a part in being wedding planners. It was nice to see the buzz around the ward that has been generated with the wedding of Mr and Mrs Lockwood.”
